Buddy Taylor’s Team Attack competes in Green Cove Springs
The Buddy Taylor Middle School wrestling team, Team Attack, took 13 wrestlers to an Amateur Athletic Union wrestling tournament last weekend.
Leading the way was Michael DeAugustino, who finished in first place. Avery Holder and Wilbur Thompson both finished second; Seth Armstrong, Ethan Datillo, Chase Richards and Storm Bauder finished third; Daniel Paulson, Brandon Gale, Michael Martins, Chance Richards, Nathan St. Pierre and Anthony Mascrella placed fourth.
The team, which is led by FPC coach Tom Bartolotta and FPC assistant coach TJ Gillin, features about 20 wrestlers and practices twice a week. The
“The kids are working hard and progressing,” Bartolotta said.

Girls basketball: Lady Pirates topple Middleburg
Matanzas nailed seven 3-pointers on Saturday night en route to a 55-31 win over Middleburg.
Matanzas (3-3) used a big offensive second half to put the game away. After leading 21-17 at the half, the Lady Pirates scored 34 second-half points and limited Middleburg to just 14 points.
Junior Natalie Mejia dropped 16 points. Drew Good added 12 points, and Alyssa Lamb tallied 10 points.
Shanteria Few added nine rebounds and four steals.

Matanzas clips FPC in girls weightlifting
In a test of strength among Flagler County’s female weightlifters last week, the Matanzas Lady Iron Pirates edged out crosstown Flagler Palm Coast, 45-44.
The meet was tied after all the weight classes lifted, but because Matanzas had six first-place finishes compared to FPC’s four, the one-point tiebreaker went to Matanzas and sealed the victory.
“We want to thank everyone for coming out and showing your support,” Matanzas coach Sara Novak said. “The field house was packed.”
Matanzas, in its second year, is 2-0 this seas.

Bulldogs hoops: 4-1
The Flagler Palm Coast boys basketball team defeated DeLand, 58-49, on Tuesday during an in-school game.
FPC trailed 20-9 after the first quarter, but the Bulldogs outscored the Bulldogs of Volusia County, 49-29, the rest of the way.
Tyler Hopkins unleashed for 28 points, including 15 points in the fourth quarter and 22 second-half points. Sam Cooper added 10 points and snatched five rebounds. Willie Gardner dropped 11 points and swatted three shots away.

Registration under way for 20th-annual Family Life Center golf tourney
The 20th-annual Family Life Center golf tournament will tee off 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the Palm Harbor Golf Course, and registration is currently under way.
Early registration cost is $75 for the four-person scramble and includes the cart fee, lunch, dinner, drinks and prizes. Pre-registration ends Jan. 7, and then the price will be $85.
