Registration for the Flagler County Police Athletic League’s fall baseball season is now open. Fee of $45 includes team hat and jersey. Players can register online or at the PAL office during regular business hours until Sept. 1. Evening signups will take place 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, and Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the PAL offices, 5400 E. State Road 100, Palm Coast.

In addition, Flagler Palm Coast baseball coach Jordan Butler will host two free player clinics for all PAL participants 9-11 a.m. Sept. 8, and then again 9-11 a.m. Oct. 20, at FPC.

+ Flagler Sportfishing Club to hold inshore fishing tourney
The Flagler Sportfishing Club will hold its 24th-annual Inshore Fishing Tournament Sept. 7-8, at Hurricane Patty’s, 820 Moody Lane, in Flagler Beach (under the State Road 100 bridge).

The mandatory captains’ meeting starts 7 a.m. Sept. 7, with weigh-ins 2-4 p.m. Sept. 8. The inshore tournament will pay four places in redfish, trout and flounder.

The tournament is the club’s major fundraising event, and this year, the tournament will benefit Tristan Kaphan.

Tristan was born in June with a birth defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome — his heart did not develop properly.

He has undergone open-heart surgery in a hospital in Michigan. He will require several more open-heart surgeries — all out of state, according to the club.

Tristan is the son of James and Emily Kaphan. James Kaphan is a deputy with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. The proceeds of this year’s tournament will go to the Kaphans.

For more information, go to www.fcsportfishing.com. Contact Capt. Jimmy Britton at 931-1547 or via email at [email protected].

The club’s regular monthly meeting will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Palm Coast Elks Lodge, 53 Old Kings Road. The guest speaker will be Capt. Nathan Lemmon, and his subject matter will be sight fishing. You can read more about Lemmon at his website: www.floridasightfishing.com.
