+ Matanzas tops Flagler Palm Coast in bowling
The Matanzas boys and girls bowling teams defeated crosstown Flagler Palm Coast last week.

On the boys side, Matanzas won in three straight games, with a total score of 2,238 to 2,007.

The Pirates (4-2) got a high score of 229 from Christian Sikes, while the Bulldogs (2-5) got a high score of 191 from Bradley Kopka.

On the girls side, the Lady Pirates won two of three matches, winning with a total score of 1,608 to 1,558. The Lady Pirates (3-2) got a high score of 248 from Shana Taulbee, and the Lady Bulldogs (3-4) got a high score of 183 from Chelsea Blaha.

+ FPC cross-country finishes 14th at UF competition
The Flagler Palm Coast High School cross-country team traveled to Gainesville Sept. 24, to compete in the Mountain Dew Invitational.

The boys team placed 13th out of 68 scoring teams in a race that featured more than 460 runners.

The girls team placed 41st out of 58 scoring teams.

+ Gymnastics invitational to flip through Palm Coast
The Summer Salt Invite will swing through Palm Coast this weekend, with the city’s first competitive gymnastics event.

The competition will take place 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Flagler Palm Coast High School.

More than 350 gymnasts from Florida and Georgia will display their skills in the uneven bar, floor exercise, balance beam and vault exercises.

Kelly Hesbeens, of Palm Coast Gymnastics, said Palm Coast will see something it has never seen before.

“We are putting Palm Coast on the map,” said Hesbeens, who hopes it will become an annual event.

+ Bad Boy wrestling to host first meet Oct. 2
The Flagler Bad Boy Wrestling Club will host its first elementary school event 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at Flagler Palm Coast High School.

The program, which is in its first year, is for aspiring wrestlers from third grade to sixth. It is being put together by FPC coach Bobby Bossardet.

+ Sport Fishing Club holds 23rd tourney
The Flagler County Sport Fishing Club held its 23rd-annual inshore tournament Sept. 16 to Sept. 17.

The winners are as follows: Redfish, Nolan Cowley, 5.9 pounds; Chuck Gleichmann, 5.8; Greg Wilk, 5.7; John Mercle, 5.4. Trout: John Laicrox IV, 2.0; Steve Luther, 1.8. Flounder: Bill Moore, 2.2; Scott Cornelius, 1.8; John Dodd, 1.6. Flagler Slam: Greg Wilk, 7.5.
