Fall sports in full gear

As you thumb through the sports section this week, one thing is evident: Football is getting all of the love.

We have provided the full schedules for both Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas high schools, as well as coverage of what each team hopes to accomplish this season.

The Bulldogs and the Pirates will play each other 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Flagler Palm Coast High School.

The Bulldogs have won all six meetings between the two teams, but coach Keith Lagocki and the Pirates are hoping to change their fortunes this year.

Both teams have new quarterbacks and plenty of new faces. Read the full coverage of both teams in this Sports section.

But football isn’t the only sport that will be taking place over the next four months.

As the rest of the area high school sports begin to pick up, there will be plenty of coverage of all the other fall sports, including bowling, volleyball, swimming, golf and cross country.

But until we get to them — in traditional rivalry form — here are the dates when FPC and Matanzas will square off in the various fall sports.

The two area bowling teams will face off twice this season. The first will be 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, and Matanzas will be the home team.

The second meeting will be 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, and FPC will be the home team.

In volleyball, FPC will host Matanzas at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.

On the golf course, the boys teams will square off Sept. 8 and again Oct. 6. For the girls, FPC and Matanzas will meet Sept. 15 and Sept. 27

In the pool, the Bulldogs and Pirates compete Oct. 21 in a meet.
