One of the most heartwarming events ever staged took place at the Pine Course’s dining room, Thursday, Oct. 27, when 70 members of the Pine Lakes Women’s Golf Association paid tribute the group’s 30th anniversary.

The number alone was stunning.

What’s amazing is the fact that women golfers back then started a golf association, and that it still exits to this day, 30 years later, and even more active than it was back then.

Linda Mahran, serving as host and Master of Ceremonies, did a marvelous job on both counts in making every member and invited guests feeling special. She didn’t miss a beat while introducing past presidents and special guests.

Noteworthy were appearances by Ken Van Leuven and Paul Trettner, PGA golf professionals at Pine Lakes many years ago.

Today, Van Leuven is the pro and Director of Golf at River Bend, and Trettner the same title at Pelican Bay, in Daytona. The greetings extended illustrated how popular they were in their Pine days.

Alan Howell, director for Hampton Golf at The Pine and Cypress courses, was another favored with immense greetings. Howell is one of the most popular golf pros to serve in this area.

Still, the amazing fact is that the Women’s Golf Association had a solid membership 30 years ago.
For me, it brought to life a closing message used for decades in thousands of my shows during a 48-year radio sports career.

Next to Religion, sports contribute more toward the American way of life.

That phrase was never this true as it was Thursday, at the Pine Course of Palm Coast.

Well done, ladies!
