John Elway isn’t the vice president of football operations, and Tim Tebow isn’t the starting quarterback, but the Broncos that compete in the Palm Coast Phantom Flag Football League were able to win the U8 division in the inaugural season of the league. The U8 division comprises players ages 7 and 8.

The Broncos finished the regular season in first place with five wins, two losses and a tie, which was good enough for the No. 1 seed heading into the playoffs. The Broncos knocked off the fourth-seeded Steelers and the No. 2-seeded Jaguars in the semifinals en route to the Super Bowl championship.

Tom Gentry, commissioner of the league’s board, said the first season was definitely a success.

“While there will always be a learning curve in running a youth athletic organization, I think we were able to be pretty successful out of the box,” Gentry said.

Gentry plans to have a fall league, and there are also plans to add Phantom Cheer into the mix as well.

Registration for the fall season will occur sometime in late August or early September, Gentry said, with a season running through October and November.
