Following a 3-16 season, Matanzas Athletics Director Kenny Seybold announced a new head girls basketball coach Thursday, March 17, in a statement.

Brian Morris will take over the program after spending four years at Atlantic High School, in Port Orange, where he coached both the boys and the girls teams. Morris led the Sharks to an 85-26 record over four years.

“When we advertised the position, I didn’t expect to have someone of Brian’s experience to be interested,” Seybold said. “Needless to say, after we spoke several times, I knew that Brian was the person for this position. He is very aware of what needs to be done to make our girls basketball program become competitive, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

In an e-mail Friday, Morris said: “I'm really excited about this opportunity. The program has a lot of potential with it being only a few years old. We will start working hard this summer with strength training and team camps.”

Former coach Louise Wolfe stepped down to pursue her master’s degree, the press release stated.

Seybold said Wolfe will remain the head girls golf coach and assistant girls lacrosse coach for Matanzas.

“Coach Wolfe has left the program in better shape than when she took it over,” Seybold said. “I am grateful for her dedication and efforts with the program. We are very fortunate at Matanzas that she will remain a coach for us in other areas.”
