West Ham United, a club in the English Premier League, will have scouts in Palm Coast next month.

West Ham has one of the best youth academies in the world, and six members of the current full England national team were graduates of the West Ham Youth Academy — more popularly known as The Academy of Football or The Academy. Some of those players include Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard. Both are prominent players in professional soccer.

The opportunity for local soccer players to get worldwide exposure came about because of a partnership between Pure FC Academy and Flagler County-based FC United.

Rich Weber, vice president of programs and development for FC United, said the relationship with Pure FC allows for players to get top-notch exposure.

“Having the camp completely open to players is a great benefit to the local soccer player,” Weber said. “It will be a great opportunity for players to come showcase their skills and learn from some of the best instructors in the world.”

The opportunity for Palm Coast players to be noticed for their abilities on the field is at a club tournament or the Youth Olympic Development Program.

Serious players between the ages of 9 and 18 shouldn’t hesitate to register for this opportunity. They might not get picked to play for an English Premier League team, but for a fair price, they will be getting tips from some of the best trainers across the globe. And it’s very difficult to put a price tag on something like that.

Sean Stern, director of operations for Pure FC, said: “The upcoming West Ham United Academy Player ID Camp provides an excellent avenue for the most talented local players to be identified and progress to the professional ranks.”

The Academy will host the player identification camp from July 1 to July 3, at Indian Trails Sports Complex.

The times vary for each age division. Cost is $125 per player. For more information and registration, go to www.WestHamAcademy International.com.
