Team Teal ignites Jags Nation

Standing in front of a crowd of hundreds June 2, at the Flagler County Team Teal event, Bill Prescott, CFO of the Jacksonville Jaguars, told Flagler County what it wanted to hear: “We will play football in 2011.”

Following loud cheers, Prescott continued and told Flagler County that it had the best Team Teal turnout to date.

The point of Team Teal is to reach out to various branches of the Northeast Florida region and promote the franchise.; it’s also an effort to help sell tickets.

At the tailgate, I got the chance to interview former Jags offensive lineman Tony Boselli. While playing college football at the University of Southern California, Boselli was recorded at 6 feet, 7 inches, and 322 pounds. Take a look at the picture above; his size is evident.

Boselli was the franchise’s No. 1 overall pick in the Jaguars inaugural season in 1995. He played six seasons for the Jaguars and was the team’s first player inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame, in 2006.

Boselli was a part of the franchise during some of the best times, particularly when the Jaguars reached the playoffs from 1996 to 1999, including two AFC Championship Game appearances. Boselli thinks the team is on the verge of making it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2007.

Because of the lockouts, the Jags — and other teams — have lost momentum heading into the 2011 season, Boselli said, but the fans can help support the team.

“(Fans) need to realize how important (they) are to the game,” Boselli said.

Prescott and Boselli guaranteed there will be football in 2011.

And if there is, consider taking the “Jag Bus” to EverBank Field. The passenger bus leaves three hours prior to each home game.
