CORRECTED VERSION July 25

Sometimes you have to just take a punch and get back up swinging.

Like the popular Cindy Jackson, who resigned from her head professional position at the Pine Course when, according to a Membership Director Dora Garcia, the managing company ordered budget cuts.

Jackson said she’s handling it well, adding: “I’m enjoying this time at home with my children.”

Others who were budget-cut victims include Dave O’Sullivan, who had been with the Pine Course for more than 20 years; Marcia Yvonne, who ran the restaurant with style and precision.

People have asked me if the above “rumors” were true. Now you know.

Another taking left hooks to the chin is Ty Capps, the Palm Coast resident who is determined to make the PGA Tour. But Capps had to shake off a -1 score at the Nationwide Tour qualifier and wait for another day. Capps has guts and, if anyone can get up swinging, it’s him.

I wuz thinkin’
How best to describe playing with the Sludgehammer Group at the Pine Course with Tom and Joan DeMarco in a foursome?

These golfers play steady and well without fanfare and never hold up the party behind them. I’ve watched Saturday after Saturday and can only smile at the goodness of it all. They are a class act and play golf the way it’s supposed to be played.

Another joy is to play Grand Haven. The Jack Nicklaus course is a gem and always in terrific condition.

One more downright beautiful golf course to play now is Grand Reserve, located off U.S. 1. Rick Herman and Fred Kleinfelder (the former grounds head at the original Palm Harbor) keep it in spectacular playing condition.

Applause for the day goes to Eric Gonzales and what he accomplishes on the Little Links program, at Cypress. Tess Dietz, the 8-year-old daughter of Jack Dietz socked the Cypress Course for a round of 48.

Her dad said 47. “No,” she said. “It’s 48!”

Little Links by Gonzales is held each Monday and Tuesday. Cost is $150 for 12 sessions. Under Gonzales, it’s worth it.
