Leo Goretti and Pat Gould hope to improve the youth talent level.

The Flagler Premier Soccer Club was formed three years ago by Leo Goretti, president, and Pat Gould, vice president, with the help of Palm Coast City Council member Frank Meeker.

Now, Goretti and Gould are hoping to increase the talent level of youth soccer players in the county by creating a middle-school feeder program.

The Flagler Premier Soccer Wolf Pack Academy will be for boys and girls, and will provide structured progression for younger players.

“(The academy) will enhance the players’ development in an environment that is age appropriate, fun, challenging and development-focused,” according to a press release from the club.

Additionally, Flagler Premier Soccer will create the Indian Trails Middle School Mustang soccer program. The program will start next year and is designed to allow Flagler County schools to play against Volusia and St. Johns county schools.

Goretti said in a statement that Flagler Premier Soccer is the middle ground between recreational leagues and the more expensive travel leagues that are available.

“We noticed there was a niche not being met for a new level of soccer player,” Goretti said. “At the one end, you have a strong recreationally based program ... and on the other end, you have a much higher cost program catering to those looking for individual trainers and more travel.”

The goal of the Flagler Premier Soccer Club is to develop top-level youth players. These players will gain technical expertise, tactical awareness, and professional discipline that will help them to advance and contribute to a team at the highest level of competition, the release states.

Recently, the U14 girls team, coached by Gould, competed and earned first place in a tournament, winning twice and earning a tie in four games. The Force won the championship, 2-1, over Pinecrest Premier, from Miami.

The team played up two age divisions.

“These ladies left it all on the field,” Gould said. “They properly prepared and executed the game plan as scripted. I couldn’t be more proud.”
