CLASS NOTES: Matanzas' Lina Makhmutova aerospace art on display at Kennedy Space Center

PIRATE'S ART ON DISPLAY AT KENNEDY SPACE CENTER

Three works from Matanzas High School art students were selected to be in The Drive to Fly aerospace art competition. Chloe Dotson, Noraly Dominguez and Lina Makhmutova had their work on display at the Starry Night Gallery in Daytona Beach with each receiving a monetary award.

Makhmutova was the overall third-place winner and received an additional scholarship. Her work — along with the other winners, Olivia Massalone of DeLand and Maya Chebaro of Spruce Creek — has been placed on display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Donald Meyers from Cambridge Assessment International Education visited Matanzas High School on May 14 to present the school’s Cambridge AICE program with Cambridge International's U.S. Small District of the Year award.

Matanzas has offered the Cambridge AICE program since the 2018-19 school year. The AICE program is a three-year curriculum offering specialized courses designed to prepare students for honors degree programs.

“This award reflects the dedication of our educators and the ambition of our students,” Flagler School Superintendent LaShakia Moore, said when the award was announced.“Programs like Cambridge help our students think deeply, explore new ideas, and graduate ready for the opportunities ahead.”
