Two principals from Ormond-area schools have been promoted to district positions, as approved by the Volusia County School Board at its meeting on Tuesday, May 12.

Seabreeze High School Principal Tucker Harris will be leaving the sandbar to assume the position of director of secondary schools for Volusia County Schools. Harris had been the principal at Seabreeze since the 2022-2023 school year, leading the school as it went from a "C" to an "A" school.

"Over the past four years, we have accomplished so much together, and I'm proud to have been a very small part of something very big," Harris said. "As I've shared with the team, I'm just one spoke in the wheel. It takes all of us working together and playing our roles at a high level to

achieve success. Because of the dedication of our faculty, staff and students, Seabreeze is once again where it belongs and like Mufasa said, 'I simply reminded them of who they were.'"

Harris graduated from Seabreeze in 1994 and previously served as principal at Palm Terrace Elementary, Ormond each Elementary and Pine Trail Elementary. He's worked for VCS for 25 years and has worked in education for over two decades.

Beachside Elementary Principal Dr. Leigh Prokop was also appointed as the new director of elementary schools for the district. She became the principal at Beachside in the 2023-2024 school year. Beachside became an "A" school last year.

"I am incredibly honored and humbled for this opportunity and for your confidence in me to be named as Volusia County Schools director of elementary," Prokop said. "I want to thank Volusia County Schools for investing in my growth as a leader and as an educator. I look forward to continuing to grow and learn in this incredible county."

The School Board also approved two other administrative appointments at its meeting: James Barringer, coordinator of School Psychological Services for VCS, will be the new executive director of Graduation Assurance and Student Services. Blue Lake Elementary Principal Holly Bailey was appointed as the new director of Human Resources.
