The 52nd annual Art in the Park returned to Rockefeller Gardens on May 2-3, bringing artists, crafters and visitors together along the Halifax River.
Held each year the weekend before Mother’s Day, the event is presented by the City of Ormond Beach Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens.
Wood carver Marc Gilmet, of Ormond Beach, was named Best of Show at the juried event, which included both fine art and crafts categories. Taymon Loringsmith, of New Smyrna Beach, earned first place in the fine arts category for his “Beach People” painting series, while Phil and Cris Klemp, of DeLand took first place in the crafts category.
A total of 37 fine artists and 38 crafters entered the juried competition. Awards totaling $3,500 were presented, including a $1,500 Best of Show prize.
“We’re thrilled to once again partner with the City of Ormond Beach for the 52nd annual Art in the Park,” said Stephanie Mason-Teague, director of the Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for the community of Ormond Beach to see some amazing fine art, and some of the most talented crafters I think we’ve ever seen.”
Severe storms and a tornado watch interrupted Saturday’s festivities, but vendors returned Sunday in good spirits, with many saying it was still a great show.
Visitors also enjoyed food trucks and live musical entertainment on the Rockefeller Gardens stage and on the lawn of The Casements.
