The Halifax Repertory Theatre's production of "Hadestown: Teen Edition" opened on Friday, July 31, at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center, 399 N. U.S. 1, Ormond Beach. It will continue with Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances through Aug. 9.
The production features an all-teen cast of 24 performers accompanied by an orchestra of mostly teen musicians.
"Hadestown," an acclaimed Broadway musical by Anais Mitchell, won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The play intertwines the ancient Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone into a story of love, sacrifice, hope and resilience set to a score inspired by American folk, jazz and blues music.
The production reflects Halifax Repertory Theatre's commitment to arts education. This fall, HRT will launch the Halifax Repertory Theatre Arts Academy, providing performing arts training for middle and high school students in acting, voice, dance and performance.
Performances of 'Hadestown: Teen Edition' are scheduled for July 31-Aug. 2 and Aug. 7-9 with Friday and Saturday showings at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office, 386-610-0600, and at ormondbeachperformingartscenter.csstix.com. Tickets cost $25 for students, $35 for adults.
