Two Ormond Beach library employees — who are also students at Daytona State College — were recently awarded scholarships from the Friends of the Ormond Beach Library.

On April 13, the Friends awarded Samatha LaPointe and Isabelle Wurtz with $1,000 scholarships.

"These deserving library employees are furthering their education while demonstrating a commitment to library service," the Friends stated in a press release.

LaPointe is currently obtaining her associate's degree and plans to pursue bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology, with the goal to become a school counselor. She has worked at the library for three years and plans to continue to do so throughout her schooling.

Wurtz is pursuing an associate's degree in early childhood development and plans to study pre-law as an undergraduate, with the goal to be accepted at the New York University School of Law. She has worked at the library for one year and plans to continue during her undergrad years.

"The Friends of the Ormond Beach Library congratulate Samantha and Isabelle on their achievement and we wish them continued success in their academic pursuits," the press release states.
