Jobless claims in Florida dropped last week but for a second week they topped the moving yearly average.

The U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday estimated 6,732 unemployment claims were filed last week in Florida, down from a revised count of 7,671 for the week ending June 6.

Both numbers push up the state's weekly average, which is now 5,999 since the start of the year.

The latest figures come as the state will update its employment figures, which stood at 4.8 percent rate for April, on Friday.

The April numbers showed 532,000 unemployed Floridians from a labor force of 11.15 million.

Nationally, 226,000 claims were filed last week, down from 230,000 the week ending June 6.
