Volusia County Women Who Care, the all-volunteer giving circle dedicated to supporting local nonprofits through collective giving, awarded a $37,852.52 grant to Halifax Urban Ministries during a recent check presentation and tour at Hope Place in Daytona Beach.
In addition to the primary grant, VCWWC awarded Community Partner Impact Fund grants of $1,250 each to Council on Aging Volusia County, Inc. and Girls on the Run Northeast Florida, ensuring that all presenting organizations receive meaningful support.
The check presentation provided VCWWC members with an opportunity to experience firsthand the impact of their collective giving. During the visit, members toured Hope Place, HUM’s residential program serving families working toward independence, survivors of domestic violence, and homeless veterans.
“Moments like this remind us why we do what we do,” said Teresa Smith, founder and president of Volusia County Women Who Care. “Our members come together each quarter, each giving $100, and when combined, those gifts create life-changing opportunities for organizations like Halifax Urban Ministries. Seeing the impact firsthand is both humbling and inspiring.”
During the tour, members visited residential living spaces, community gathering areas, and essential service facilities including the kitchen, dining area, clothing closet, and furniture warehouse, all critical resources that help individuals and families rebuild their lives with dignity and stability.
Since its founding, VCWWC has operated on a simple yet powerful model: members contribute $100 each quarter, and 100% of those funds are awarded directly to a member-nominated and member-selected nonprofit serving Volusia County. Through this model, VCWWC has granted more than $700,000 to local organizations, amplifying impact through collaboration and community engagement. VCWWC’s Community Partner Impact Fund further extends this impact by providing sustaining grants to additional presenting nonprofits each quarter, ensuring broader support across the nonprofit community.
The community is invited to attend upcoming VCWWC quarterly meetings to learn more and participate in this unique model of collective giving. Remaining 2026 meeting dates include May 14, Aug. 13, and Nov. 19, held at Daytona State College’s Mori Hosseini Center.
