Ormond-by-the-Sea couple celebrates 75th anniversary

Ormond-by-the-Sea residents Robert "Bud" and Carolyn Gerard celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on June 17.

According to a statement submitted to the Observer, the Gerards were married June 17, 1950. Bud was born and raised in Wilmington, Ohio and graduated from Wilmington High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and later worked for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired as

postmaster. 

Carolyn was born in Lancaster, Ohio and lived in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma before returning to Ohio, where she graduated with a master's degree in education and later retired from teaching in Wilmington City Schools.

Bud and Carolyn met on a blind date at Bud's senior class picnic in 1947, marrying three years later. The couple raised two daughters, Aleta and Becky, and have four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. After retiring in Ohio, they moved to Florida. They are members of Grace Lutheran Church.

"They have shared a life of love for each other, their family, their church and their love of travel," the statement reads.
