Palm Coast Fire Department Engines 25 and 29 responded to a fire involving about 26 vehicles at a salvage yard off of County Road 207 in south Flagler County on June 24.

Several of the vehicles were electric vehicles, according to the PCFD. The vehicles were being moved around and one ignited with the fire spreading to the vehicles around it, spreading flames throughout the yard.

"This was a different type of fire," said Lt. Patrick Juliano, PCFD's public information officer. "It requires a lot more water, because you have to cool down the battery and put out the fire."

A water tender arrived on scene to support Engine 25 with additional water supply. Thanks to a rapid response, the fire was brought under control within 10 minutes.

Nine vehicles sustained heavy fire damage, while six others were impacted by radiant heat.

A forklift lifted the battery out of the initial burning vehicle, which allowed for quicker control, Juliano said

Units involved were PCFD Battalion 25, Engine 25 and Engine 29 and Flagler County Fire Rescue Engine 16, Rescue 25, Tender 50, Tender 51 and Battalion 50.
