In anticipation of potentially disruptive social media pop-up events this Memorial Day weekend, both the city of Ormond Beach and Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood have designated special event zones where laws will be strictly enforced and fines for violations will be doubled.
The VSO zone takes effect in the morning on Saturday, May 27. It covers the area bounded by A1A from Plaza Boulevard south to Dunlawton Avenue, including the beach, then west on Dunlawton Avenue to South Peninsula Drive, then north on South Peninsula Drive until it turns into North Halifax Avenue, north to Peninsula Boulevard, then east on Plaza Boulevard to A1A.
The Ormond Beach zone encompasses the southern limits of Ormond Beach, from Riverside Drive to SR A1A, extending to Sandcastle Drive, John Anderson Drive, and SR 40.
These zones will remain in effect as long as is reasonably necessary to ensure the public health, safety and welfare of our residents and visitors.
The Sheriff’s Office and our law enforcement partners want everyone to enjoy a safe holiday in Volusia County and on our beaches, and these zones are intended to help make that possible.
