An inmate at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility was tased twice by deputies after he attacked them with a broken toilet plunger on Thursday Oct. 27.

The man, Isaac Brevil from Delray Beach, was re-arrested on five felony charges after the incident. Five deputies at the jail were involved in the incident — three were struck by the plungers and two used their Taser's on Brevil, according to the charging affidavit.

Four of the deputies were uninjured and one sustained a fractured elbow, according to a press release from Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

“I will not tolerate anyone, especially an inmate, attacking a deputy sheriff,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. “I commend our detention deputies for how they handled a very dangerous situation and thank God the injuries were not any worse. We all pray for a speedy recovery for our deputy.”

Brevil got the plunger from an officer to unclog his cell's toilet, the affidavit said, but would not return it and broke it in two, creating sharp-ended sticks. The report said the deputies used "clear out" canisters first, and then entered the cell when Brevil "continued to be uncooperative."

Brevil was initially arrested in September for fleeing a traffic stop and has an open extradition warrant from Palm Beach for carjacking, the press release said. Brevil is now also faced with four counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence, according to the charging affidavit.

"This is a prime example of just how dangerous a detention deputy’s job can be," Staly said. "They are the invisible heroes keeping our community safe from people like this.”
