As of 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, the center of Tropical Storm Nicole was approaching the Florida panhandle, but tropical storm and storm surge warnings remained in effect for Volusia County, according to the National Hurricane Center.
In Ormond Beach, cars lined up on Granada Boulevard with the hopes of crossing the bridge to the beachside. Residents with a valid photo ID and an Ormond beachside address were slowly being allowed to cross. Around 11 a.m. Thursday, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood ordered the closure of all bridges to the beachside, with the exception of the North and South Causeways in New Smyrna Beach.
Both incorporated and unincorporated areas east of the Intracoastal Waterway are under curfew. The curfew will lift at 7 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. Law enforcement, emergency workers and employees traveling to and from work are exempt.
The county is asking residents to avoid unnecessary driving as roads may be impassible due to standing water, downed trees and other debris.
