Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies recently busted an inmate trying to smuggle suboxone strips through letters addressed to him from outside the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Facility. The FCSO Special Investigations Unit conducted an investigation regarding two inmates at the jail trying to arrange an illegal narcotics delivery. Deputies determined 26-year-old Eric Marcotte was having mail sent to him, specifically birthday cards, with suboxone strips glued inside them.

Detectives first intercepted a piece of mail addressed to Marcotte on April 27. Detectives found a birthday card with a peeling corner. As they inspected the card, they discovered a silver strip of tape located in between the card paper containing two strips of suboxone. Detectives made a controlled delivery of the “birthday cards” and then arrested him.

“An inmate at the Green Roof Inn just extended his stay,” Sheriff Rick Staly said.

Marcotte was charged with Introduction of Contraband into a Correctional Facility. Marcotte was arrested in February on two felony charges for Grand Theft and Carjacking. He’s being held without bond. He’s previously been charged in Florida with multiple drug and weapons charges.
