Ronald Simmons served as combat infantryman in the 1st Infantry Division, “The Big Red One,” in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966. He was a sharpshooter who earned the Army Commendation Medal with V device, Vietnam Service Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge. After his honorable service, he returned to New York and worked in banking before relocating to the Virgin Islands, where he was the branch manager of a bank. He retired as a loan officer. Simmons and his wife Florence moved to Palm Coast in 2005.
