A felon released from prison just last month found himself in the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility after trying to elude Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies Wednesday, Jan. 12.

“Not only did he put deputies in danger, but he put multiple lives in danger driving recklessly on the interstate."

Michael Windom, 22, fled an attempted FCSO traffic stop Jan. 11. He was driving fast and recklessly on Interstate 95, so deputies didn't pursue his Nissan Altima, for safety reasons.

One day later, deputies spotted the Altima in an apartment complex. Windom was kneeling near the back of the car trying to remove the license plate.

When Windom saw the patrol car, he ran toward the complex, ignoring deputies' commands as he ran into an apartment.

Deputies continued issuing commands until Windom left the apartment and was taken into custody.

When deputies went back to the Altima, they found that it was a rental. Deputies could smell cannabis from the exteriors and searched a backpack found on the ground next to the car.

The bag contained a package of plastic baggies, two digital scales (one with visible white powder residue), several types of narcotics and $600.

In total, deputies recovered 10.5g of fentanyl, 2g of crack cocaine, 10.6g of methamphetamines and 1.3g of cannabis.

Windom has been previously charged with Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Battery, Possession of Cocaine, Burglary, Possession of MDMA, Resisting Officer without Violence, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon/Ammo by a Convicted Felon.

“Here’s a guy who deputies tried to pull over, and he took off,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Not only did he put deputies in danger, but he put multiple lives in danger driving recklessly on the interstate. Our patrol deputies did a phenomenal job searching for him and ultimately finding him, with enough poison to potentially kill 5,500 people. If you run from us, you only delay your trip to the Green Roof Inn, but we will get you. Clearly, his recent prison stay didn’t teach him a lesson, but hopefully the judge will keep him locked up now!”

Windom was arrested for Resisting Officer without Violence, Trafficking Fentanyl, Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Methamphetamines with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cannabis Under 20g and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Windom was booked in to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $56,500 bond.
