After a three-day trial, on Monday, April 5, a 26-year-old Ormond Beach man was found guilty of the 2019 murder of his five-month-old infant.

On June 11, 2019, Calib Scott was at home taking care of his son and struggling to control his infant's crying, according to a press release by the State Attorney's Office Seventh Judicial Circuit. The release states that Scott then "dropped, slapped, struck and slammed his child." Medics at the scene found the child unresponsive and dehydrated, and he was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly upon arrival.

The State Attorney's Office states further investigation showed the child had suffered "multiple blunt force injuries on his body, including to his face and mouth, and he had thermal injuries consistent with a cigarette burn."

"Baby Daemon suffered through 5 months of hell and ultimately died at the hands of his father," State Attorney R.J. Larizza said. "What he suffered is unimaginable. How could a father be so selfish and cruel? We will remain dedicated to protecting the most vulnerable and precious members of our community as we prepare for the sentencing phase of the trial."

The jury of six men and women found Scott guilty of first degree murder, aggravated child abuse and neglect of a child causing great bodily harm. Scott will be sentenced next week, where he will face the possibility of the death penalty.

In June 2020, the child's mother, 36-year-old Stephanie Holly, was arrested on three charges related to child neglect, child abuse and negligence.
