An Ormond Beach gallery owner and director was recently appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to serve a four-year term on the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.

Frank Gromling, of Ocean Art Gallery, joins the 15-member advisory council that is appointed to advise the secretary of state regarding cultural grant funding and matters pertaining to culture in Florida, according to a press release. The appointments are based on geographic representation, as well as demonstrated history of community service in the arts and local culture.

DeSantis and Gromling met through the annual Congressional Art Competition program conducted by the Congressional Institute, the press release states. Each spring, the Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual arts competition. Gromling hosted the winning students of Congressional District 6 from 2015-2017 while DeSantis was the district's representative.

Beside owning Ocean Art Gallery since 2012, Gromling also formerly owned and operated an independent nonfiction book publishing company called Ocean Publishing. He also serves on the Art, Culture and Heritage Advisory Committee of the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Board.
