Two Jacksonville residents went on a BB-gun shooting spree on Interstate 95 and Interstate 4 across multiple counties — including Flagler — on New Year's Day, shattering drivers' windows before speeding away, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

FCSO Major Case Unit deputies on May 7 obtained arrest warrants for 21-year-old Deon Jones, who is charged in Flagler County with criminal mischief and shooting into an occupied vehicle; and for 22-year-old Tiyana Anderson, who is charged in Flagler County with principal to criminal mischief and principal to shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Because the shooting spree occurred over multiple jurisdictions, both also face charges elsewhere.

“This could have had a much more tragic outcome and we are thankful that no one was seriously injured,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in an FCSO news release. “It appears these two were traveling up and down the highways shooting at random vehicles, as they are facing nineteen charges each in Volusia County alone. This type of joy ride will not be tolerated and this case shows that law enforcement works together so that criminals that cross boundaries will still be apprehended. This reflects the great partnership we have locally.”

The Flagler County incident occurred at around 6:52 p.m. Jan. 1. The victim was driving north on Interstate 95 near the State Road 100 exit when her window shattered, forcing her to pull over, according to a deputy's report. When she checked her car, she found six other small dents on the driver's side. The damage was estimated at over $1,000.

The Flagler County deputy investigating the case reached out to Volusia County deputies who were investigating similar incidents.

Multiple victims had noticed a silver or gray SUV fleeing the area after the shootings, and one got the SUV's tag number. Toll booth video surveillance revealed the vehicle to be a gray Honda HRV.

The Florida Highway Patrol identified suspect Deon Jones from the vehicle registration: The car was registered to Jones' grandfather, who said the 21-year-old had been using the car.

Law enforcement officers searched it, finding multiple copper BBs plus a PMC 9mm Luger round, as well as men's and women's clothing. They identified Jones' girlfriend, Anderson, as the woman who'd been driving the car during the shootings.

Cell phone data showed that Jones and Anderson were both in the vicinity of the shootings when they occurred, according to the report.

Jones is being held in the Duval County Jail while Anderson is being held in the Volusia County Correctional Facility, each on $100,000 bond, according to the news release.
