The Casements Camera Club's 27th-annual exhibit on show

March 6 marked the opening awards reception for The Casements Camera Club's 27th-annual "Ebony & Ivory" photographic exhibit, featuring black and white images by 45 club members and making up 67 entries.

The exhibit will be open to the public through March 26 at The Casements at 8 a.m. to noon, Monday-Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.

The winners were:

• First place: "My Lady" by Deborah Berry
• Second place: "Sepia Egret" by Bob Currel
• Third place: "Sun Beams II" by Vicki Payne
• The Casements Award: "Chapel at Ease," by Debbie Perez
• Best of Show: "One and a Half" by Tom Silvey

"There was a lot of great work in this exhibition and a lot of different subjects, which made it hard to choose the winners," said Exhibit Judge Juliana Romnes in a press release. “Because the theme is ‘ebony and ivory,’ I focused on images that had strong tonal values and that I felt had a greater impact in black and white than they would have in color.”

Local artist to teach workshop in Maine

Ormond Beach artist Daniel Ambrose will be traveling to Maine this summer to teach a workshop on egg tempera, an ancient painting medium that uses handmade water-soluble paint that dries quickly and produces luminous artwork, according to a press release.

At the workshop, Ambrose will teach how to make the paint and mixing pigments, as well as the use of design, color and light.

“The past eight summers I have been visiting coastal Maine," said Ambrose in the press release. “The incredible light and landscapes inspire me. It’s amazing how a few summer days in a small fishing village can be so rejuvenating. I want to share my passion for this special community, holistic approach to landscape painting and the fascinating medium of egg tempera painting.”

Ambrose's career has spanned over 30 years. He is a member of the American Society of Marine Artists and a co-fouunder of the American Tonalist Society. Visit DanielAmbrose.com for more information.

Rotary aids church food pantry

During the month of February, members of the Rotary Club of Downtown Ormond Beach helped restock the St. Brendan Food Pantry by donating food and personal care items, a press release stated.

Lions aim for diversity

Five members of the Ormond-by-the-Sea Lions Club traveled to Maitland to participate and help organize the District 35-0 New Voices Symposium on Saturday, March 7.
