A new apartment complex is in the works for Ormond Beach.

The proposal for the Tymber Creek Apartments consists of 296 units on 19.6 acres at 36 N. Tymber Creek Road. The property is located next to the existing Walgreens at 2001 W. Granada Blvd.

City Planning Director Steven Spraker said in an email that the Site Plan Review Committee received the project’s first site plan application last week. In order to be constructed, the apartment complex project will need to hold a neighborhood meeting and go through the Planning Board and City Commission for approval, as the developer seeks a rezoning.

The majority of the parcel is currently zoned B-8 Commercial. A small portion in the north is zoned A-2 rural agriculture. Under the B-8 zoning, a muti-family dwelling is listed as a conditional use.

The neighborhood meeting has not been scheduled yet.

This projects marks the ninth ongoing residential development in the city, including four phases of Plantation Oaks. None of the other projects are apartment complexes.

No fireworks at Volusia beaches
