Two people used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames on a pickup truck that caught fire after a crash on northbound Palm Harbor Parkway Jan. 31, helping save the driver, who was trapped inside.
"All the deputies and fire fighters on scene credited the witnesses for saving the man," said Brittany Kershaw, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office's public affairs manager.
The crash occurred at 12:31 p.m. Jan. 31, and deputies and other first responders were still at the scene awaiting a tow truck as of 1:25 p.m. Palm Harbor Parkway was closed from Club House Drive to Club Field Drive.
The truck, a white Chevy Silverado that had been hauling a Bobcat compact track loader on a flatbed, struck a Babcock Home Furniture delivery truck and then crashed into the concrete wall of Marina Cove, breaking it and sending the loader tumbling off the flatbed.
When the Silverado caught fire, two of the Babcock furniture employees from the delivery truck used a fire extinguisher to put it out.
Palm Coast Fire Department personnel arrived and were able to extricate the driver, Donald Croslyn, who was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the FCSO.
Sheriff Rick Staly was in the area when the crash occurred, and headed out to the scene to help.
The delivery truck was disabled in the middle of the roadway as of 1:50 p.m., and deputies closed the road in both directions between Club House Drive and Club Field Drive.
Croslyn was ticketed for careless driving, driving on a suspended license and driving a commercial motor vehicle without a commercial driver's license, Kershaw said.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story stated incorrectly that the driver of the pickup truck was not taken to the hospital. He was in fact taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the FCSO.
