Friday, Feb. 21

An evening with Máiréad Nesbitt

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center, 399 N. U.S. 1

Details: Celtic fiddler Máiréad Nesbitt returns to Ormond Beach for her only Florida appearance this year. This Grammy and Emmy-nominated artist and composer was the featured violin soloist on all 11 Celtic Woman albums. The concert will also feature vocalist Michelle Amato, a Florida-based soprano, and local Irish band Hard to Port. Daytona Pipes and Drums and the Worley-Hendricks Academy of Irish Dance will also perform. Nesbitt's performance is a fundraiser for the 10th-annual Ormond Beach Celtic Festival on April 18-19. Tickets start at $30. Call 676-3375 or visit ormondbeachcelticfestival.com

International Day of Women in Girls in Science

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Museum of Arts and Sciences, 352 S. Nova Road

Details: Join MOAS for this day celebrating the role that women and girls play in science and technology. The day will be full of female scientific speakers and presenters in astronomy, biology, environmental sciences, chemistry and engineering. Free for museum members. Nonmembers must pay museum admission; seniors cost $10.95 and adults cost $12.95.

Bethune-Cookman University performance

When: 3:30 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach First Christian Church, 50 Seville St.

Details: Listen to an hour of heavenly music, featuring the Bethune-Cookman University Inspirational Gospel Choir, with special guest soloist Leanna Hines Bradley. Also performing will be Marian Devore on the piano. Free event. Open to the public. Seating is limited.

Civil Discourse

When: 6 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Public Library auditorium, 30 S. Beach St.

Details: This Civil Discourse event will be the first in a series about "The Voting Process," with a focus on local voting issues, starting with an overview of how it works and a discussion with Lisa Lewis, the supervisor of elections for Volusia County. Contact [email protected]

Tuesday, Feb. 25

Building a Better Community: One Word at a Time

When: 5 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Public Library auditorium, 30 S. Beach St.

Details: This interactive panel will be discussing fostering the building of community relationships and diversity. The panel features former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nancy Soderberg, ADL Deputy Regional Director Yael Hershfield, author Rabbi Kurt Sone and Gina Duncan, director of transgender equality and diversity training at Equality Florida. Free and open to the public.

Conklin Center benefit concert

When: 5:30 p.m.

Where: Conklin Center for the Blind, 405 White St.

Details: Attend this evening of music by the Daytona Beach Choral Society, harpist Melody Long Anglin and entertainer Michael Sundae. Proceeds will benefit the Conklin Center, a specialized facility that prepares blind or visually impaired adults to be independent and employed. Students and graduates with musical or artistic talents will also take part in the event. Tickets cost $15. Call Terri Yerby at 386-258-3441 or visit the center. Italian cooking class

When: 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Where: The Casements, 25 Riverside Drive

Details: Join Marry Maggio, a featured teaching chef at The Casements for over 20 years, as you learn how to make chicken, shrimp and pork with Francaise, piccata, marsala and parmigiana sauces.
