Retail theft suspect found innocent, but machete in boot got him arrested anyway

Mother’s Day blues

12:35 a.m — 4000 block of Mayfair Lane

Battery. A 32-year-old woman's displeasure over her gift and where she was taken for Mother’s Day caused an argument between her and her husband where she accused him of ruining the day, according a police report. This ongoing argument lead to her arrest in the early morning hours. 

Once the couple returned home, the woman asked her husband to lay in bed despite the fact they were still arguing. The woman grabbed her husband's arm, scratching him in an attempt to pull him into bed, according to the report. The woman’s husband also told police throughout the night she had thrown a TV remote and his scooter at the wall; the man had a broken leg.

The woman told police the two had been arguing throughout the day due to her husband being verbally abusive. She admitted to grabbing her husband and trying to pull him into bed, saying she did so because she wasn’t feeling well. The woman said she did not intentionally scratch her husband and denied pinching him, according to the report. 

She was taken to jail. 

I've got a machete in my boot

1:14 a.m. — 4900 block of Clyde Morris Boulevard

Carry a concealed weapon. While responding to a retail theft in progress, police soon discovered this was no ordinary call. In fact, the 38-year-old man who was suspected of being involved had no stolen property. What he did have was a 15-inch machete inside his boot.

The man said he was never at the retail store and had been at a local restaurant chain waiting to meet a girl, according to the report. Police found several knives on the man's person, and the man said he goes camping and concealed the machete so people could not see it. He also had a black hat with “NYPD” lettering in his cargo pants. 

And while he hadn't stolen anything, the man didn't have a concealed weapon permit. Due to a prior failure to appear in court, the man was taken to jail.

Laptop broken beyond repair

1:18 a.m. — 1000 block of Wexford Way

Criminal Mischief/Damaged Property. A man was arrested after he intentionally knocked his daughter's laptop off a ledge shortly after he come home intoxicated, yelling and pounding on the front door, police report.

At the scene, police noted the man smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and appeared to be intoxicated. The man made several utterances to police about knocking over the laptop during questioning, according to the report. 

The man was asked to pay for the broken laptop and he initially agreed. But when the daughter asked where was the money to pay her was he replied, “if it was up your a-- you would know it!”, according to the report. Based on the man’s intoxicated state, a notice to appear was unable to be issued. He was taken to jail.
