Medical Marijuana

12:50 a.m. — 1200 Block of Dunlawton Avenue

Drugs. A woman was pulled over after an officer noticed she only had one working headlight. She was later arrested for having cannabis wax and narcotic paraphernalia in the vehicle. She claimed to have a medical marijuana card but was unable to provide it.

The woman claimed she recently obtained the medical marijuana card on May 8 for the cannabis wax inside an electric smoking device an officer saw in her car during the traffic stop, according to the report. She told police she got the card from a doctor in South Daytona and got the cannabis wax somewhere in Orlando, according to the report.

During a search of the vehicle the reporting officer found a glass smoking device and a metal grinder. The woman admitted they were hers, and they tested positive for cannabis. The woman was arrested and taken to jail. She also received a written warning for the headlight violation.

Just trying to go to bed …

3:41 a.m. — Intersection of Clyde Morris Boulevard and Dunlawton Avenue

Fleeing/Eluding Police. A 21-year-old was found asleep in his car at a green light, about five feet in front of the stop bar for the intersection. He was later arrested and taken to jail. The man was additionally charged with a DUI and was issued citations for feeling/eluding, improper stop, and driving the wrong way.

The officer had to bang on the window in order to wake up the man. He woke up briefly, then shut his eyes again after looking out the window, according to the report. The officer banged on the window again, and this time the man woke up, looked at the officer, grabbed the steering wheel and pulled away. The driver went into the intersection, made a right turn into the wrong lane of traffic, and drove west on an eastbound lane, according to the report.

As a chase ensued, the man accelerated rapidly into the wrong lane of traffic striking the median several times and coming to a stop after hitting stop sticks the police laid out, according to the report. The officer smelled alcohol on the man and reported he had bloodshot eyes.

The man said he was trying to get undressed for bed and was almost home. The officer noted his pants were unbuttoned and unbelted, and he also saw multiple open alcoholic beverage containers inside the car, according to the report. During a vehicle search, police also found a bag that tested positive for marijuana. The man was arrested for fleeing/eluding and possession of marijuana under 20 grams.

Once the man was transported to the police department for processing, he told police he had come from a long day of work and denied having any of the alcohol or marijuana found in the car, according to the report. The man told police he didn’t know what he as arrested for, and, as the officer explained what had happened, the man seemed unaware and denied remembering the incident, according to the report. After completing the sobriety tests and breathalyzer test, the man was transported to jail.
