Picking up the kids

3:08 p.m. — 1200 block of Reed Canal Road

Driving while license revoked, habitual. A 36-year-old woman with six prior convictions of driving with a suspended license was arrested after police found her parked in an area with multiple "No Parking" signs. She told them she lived around the corner and was just picking up her kids from school, according to the police report.

The officer spotted the woman while conducting a school zone patrol. When approached by the officer, the woman failed to provide her ID and said her license was suspended. She was issued an additional verbal warning for not paying attention to the traffic signs around her, and taken to jail.

Trespassing. A 54-year-old man was arrested after being on the property, again, of a local gas station he was trespassed from earlier this month. When questioned, the man said he was aware of the trespass warning, but that he wasn’t on the property — he was on the side walk.

The man was previously issued a trespass warning on May 14, and was later arrested on May 24, for the same offense, according to the report. When police arrived, the man was sitting in a grassy area on the property.

He was taken to jail.

Not just water under the bridge

12:39 a.m. — 70 block of Dunlawton Avenue

Possession of narcotic paraphernalia. A 35-year-old man was found sitting under the bridge, and as police approached him, they heard the metallic sound of a can being dropped onto the rocks below.

The man admitted to having received prior citations for drinking in public, according to the police report. However, he denied throwing a beer can down into the rocks. A search of the man's belongings resulted in a large orange plastic bottle that contained a glass pipe with burnt black residue inside. The man said he used the pipe to smoke weed, according to the report.

He was taken to jail.

The three B's: bananas, beer and burgers

4:13 a.m. — 3800 block of Clyde Morris Boulevard

Petit Theft. Police found a bacon cheeseburger in a 59-year-old man's pocket after he was detained for shoplifting a local convenience store. The man was accused of stealing the cheeseburger, a banana and a case of beer.

The man later said to police that he took the beer because the clerks weren’t treating him with respect and that he would pay for it, but didn’t have any money on him, according to the report. He later admitted he knew he could not afford the beer but took it anyway because he was upset.

The man appeared intoxicated, police noted. His breath smelled like alcohol and the man had slurred speech, as well as stumbled while trying to walk, according to the report.  The store clerk said the man appeared to be upset about being dropped off earlier, and when the man was asked to leave, he proceeded to build a seat out of beer boxes and sit down. The man also took a banana and drank a beer, which he consumed while sitting on the beer boxes.

A total of $14.87 in items were taken by the man, according to the report. He was taken to jail.
