June 15

Bare necessities

8:13 p.m. — 1100 block of Beville Road

Petit theft. A 47-year-old man refused to answer any questions by police without the presence of a lawyer after he was arrested for shoplifting black socks and a package of boxers from a local retail store. The man has been arrested and convicted of shoplifting numerous times before and was previously trespassed from the store in 2017.

A new trespass warning was completed. He was taken to jail.

8:23 p.m. — 100 block of Sand Pebble Circle

Possession of a controlled substance. A 51-year-old woman called police because she believed someone had stolen her cell phone, however, she then told the officer not to investigate it. Later, a records check of the woman came back with a Volusia County Warrant, according to the report. 

The woman was arrested due to the warrant and a search of her purse was conducted. The officer found sedative pills inside. The woman said she did not have a prescription for the pills, but she knew she needed one, according to the report. The woman was taken to jail. 

June 18

11:27 a.m. — 3900 block of Halifax Drive

Trespassing. While looking for a 45-year-old man inside a home he was previously trespassed from last month, a police officer stepped in what appeared to be fresh human feces, according to the report.

When police arrived, there were several articles of clothing hanging from the windows and the back door had been barricaded with a large crow bar. The outside of the home was marked with three “no trespassing” signs, one of which was posted near the back door. 

The man was found laying on the roof of the second floor and slouched down to crawl away when he saw the reporting officer. The man went back inside and was found on the second floor inside a bedroom closet. He was arrested and taken to jail for trespassing and resisting arrest. 

Charity thief

11:30 a.m. — 1000 block of City Center Circle

Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia. Police were called out to the local library after a 49-year-old man was seen taking items out of a charity box. Police later found the items from the charity box along with narcotic paraphernalia.

The man admitted he took a phone charger, and it was believed he also took a phone from the box, according to the report. A search was completed and the reporting officer found a cannabis smoking pipe that was designed to look like a cigarette and two empty plastic zip bags. No residue could be seen inside the bags. 

The man told police he uses the pipe to smoke weed and the bags were what he had the weed in when he bought it, according to the repot. The man was arrested and taken to jail as he had two prior failure to appears.
