Thursday, Feb. 21

Sierra Club presentation

When: 7-8:30 p.m.

Where: University of Central Florida Daytona Beach campus, 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd. 

Details: See a free presentation on Dark Skies by Diana Umpierre, a board membr of the International Dark-Sky Association, that will discuss the impacts of artificial light on wildlife and humans. Visit sierraclub.org/florida/volusia-flagler or call 299-4053.

Friday, Feb. 22

'An Evening with Celtic Fiddler Mairead Nesbitt'

When: 7-9 p.m.

Where: Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center, 399 N. U.S. 1

Details: This year's ninth-annual Ormond Beach Celtic Festival will feature a performance by Mairead Nesbitt, the founding member of Celtic Woman. Fresh from her run in Broadway's "Rocktopia," Nesbitt is bringing her solo show to Ormond Beach. There will be Irish dancers, pipers and an opening band. Tickets cost $30. Call 676-3375.

Saturday, Feb. 23

Ormond Outpost car and truck show

When: 11 a.m. 

Where: Ormond Outpost, 1385 N. U.S. 1

Details: Free show hosted by Cruisin Central FL. All clubs, makes and models welcome. There will be wine, beer, a food truck, music and sales throughout the store.

Fifth-annual Rainbow Bridge Walk

When: 6-9 p.m.

Where: Fortunato Park, 2 John Anderson Drive

Details: Come join nonprofit Sophie's Circle Dog Rescue to honor lost pets. As the sun foes down, walkers will light up the Granada Bridge with neon lights. Send pictures of your lost pets to hang at the memorial. Donation of $10 is requested, which includes water, a necklace and goodie bag. Walkers are encouraged to bring their dogs along. Adoptable dogs will also be available to meet, and there will be food and vendors. Submit photos to [email protected]

Sunday, Feb. 24

'The Secret'

When: 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Where: Congregation B’nai Torah, 401 N. Nova Road

Details: The Ada Siegel Committee of Congregation B'nai Torah and the Jewish Federation present this one-persona play, written and performed by Lee Weaver. The play is set in 1613 in St. Augustine retells Jose Migyel Martinez's experience serving the Spanish Monarch and the Catholic Church as a finder of jews, muslims and "bad Catholics," and his resolve to "do something about it." Light refreshments will be available. Free, though donations are accepted.

'Music of my roots'

When: 3-4:30 p.m.

Where: The Casements, 25 Riverside Drive

Details: See Jane Solose perform piano works by Schubert, Liszt, Hummel and Enescu. Tickets cost $10, and include a tour of the Hungarian Folk Exhibit. 

Tuesday, Feb. 26

Special City Commission meeting

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Commission Chambers, 22 S. Beach St.

Details: There will be a special meeting to discuss the staggering and length periods of City Commission terms. The city is hoping to place ballot referrendum question regarding this in the upcoming special election in May.

Wednesday, Feb. 27

The Casements Guild general meeting

When: 9:30 a.m. to noon

Where: The Casements, 25 Riverside Drive

Details: Join the Guild for coffee and snacks. The Guild is seeking new members. Those interested in history, enjoy interacting with people from all over the the world world, take pride in the community and can spare a little time throughout the year, are encouraged to apply for membership. If unable to attend meeting, but still interested in joining the Guild, contact Nancy Bates at 872-3126.
