A self-storage project is proposed for the property at 263 S. Nova Road by Fernery Trail.
Six residents attended a neighborhood meeting on the development held on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the Ormond Beach Regional Library. The project is still in its early stages, but MV Commercial Development LLC is seeking to construct a 92,000 square-foot climate controlled storage facility at the property, which is across the road from Dunkin’ Donuts. The project will need to be rezoned from its current B-8 commercial zoning to a Planned Business Development to allow for 34 less parking spaces and a height increase.
Michael Woods, Cobb Cole attorney representing the project, led the meeting and said that the building will be three-stories tall, and have a Mediterranean design.
Residents expressed concerns about trucks and trailers using Fernery Trail as an access point to turn around, an ongoing issue they have been dealing with.
Woods said the developer will look into this issue. An additional neighborhood meeting will be held in the future once site plans are finalized.
Ormond Beach Elementary School’s parking lot will get new signs in the next year to clearly identify it as a public lot.
The project for three signs is included in next year’s budget, said Planning Director Steven Spraker in an email to the Ormond Beach Observer. The signs will be located at the intersections of West Granada Boulevard and South Ridgewood Avenue, Lewis Street and Corbin Avenue, and at the entrance of the lot.
Spraker said staff brought a concept to Volusia County Schools, as the changes will require a school building permit.
Final renderings will be provided to Ormond MainStreet and the City Commission for review.
Ormond Beach may soon be getting a juice shop.
GoJuice is seeking to construct a 160 square-foot building at 762 S. Atlantic Ave., near Beach Village Gift Shop.The juice shop company currently has a location in New Smyrna Beach, a city staff report states. Aside from juices, GoJuice offers smoothies, açai bowls and coffee.
A neighborhood meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Ormond Beach Regional Library, located at 30 S. Beach St.
