The city of Palm Coast is calling on Flagler Palm Coast High School students to help design the future of Town Center, the area that will be the city’s downtown, according to a press release. Students in the “i3 New Tech Academy” will work in teams with community experts to learn about Town Center and its Innovation District to design concepts and spaces, experience unique field trips and possibly enjoy mystery prizes as part of this educational partnership. City Manager Matthew Morton highlighted the program at the City of Palm Coast and Flagler Schools joint annual luncheon on July 31.
“This is a one-of-a-kind experience for us to engage with the talented youth of our community to shape our future together,” said City Manager Matthew Morton. “Town Center is an important project and happens to be in the backyard of their school. Their ideas will plug directly into the mission to develop this core area into the citizen-centric, smart city that will carry Palm Coast into the next generation.”
With a new vision for Town Center and new leadership, the city plans to cluster research institutions, high-tech employers, clean technology, creative startups, amenity-rich residential areas and well-designed indoor and outdoor spaces. The program challenges students to create innovative design solutions based on their own experiences as they are ultimately the end-users of the space.
The class will begin Aug. 14 and end on Dec. 16 and there are about 25 students enrolled. Coursework is completed on a schedule and will involve projects timed to meet a certain set of milestones.
“Working with the city collaboratively in a sandbox to be able to come up with a vision where kids can have a voice along with the city is empowering for the entire community, not just the kids,” Flagler Schools Superintendent James Tager said in the news release.

The Rotary Club of Flagler Beach will host the club’s inaugural Pickleball Tournament fundraiser at Wadsworth Park, located at 2200 Moody Blvd., Flagler Beach, on Sept. 27-29.
The four-day event will kick off with a meet-and-greet from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Tortugas’ Florida Kitchen & Bar, located at 608 S. Ocean Shore Blvd., Flagler Beach. Meet-and-greet tickets are $15 per person and may be purchased as part of the registration process. Registration is $30 for one pickleball event as defined below and $10 for each additional event:
Friday, Sept. 27, Men's Singles and Women's Doubles
Saturday, Sept. 28, Mixed Doubles
Sunday, Sept. 29, Women's Singles and Men's Doubles
Skill levels are: 3.0 and below, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5 and above. Age groups are 19 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and above.
All events will be round-robin. There will be 11 courts with painted lines and portable nets. The Onix Fuse G2 ball will be used for 3.5 and below and the Dura Fast 40 ball for 4.0 and above. Dry Blend tees may be purchased as part of the registration process for $20 and a tournament logo Dry Fit hat may be purchased for $15.
Those that sponsor or play will be helping support Rotary’s community commitments, such as Project Share Christmas, Pierson Monthly Food Drop, adult education and college scholarships, Flagler Rotary Swim and Surf and much more.

The Flagler Palm Coast Cheerleaders helped spread cheer by getting involved with the recreational youth cheerleaders who attended the Lions Tumbling & Stunts Cheer Camps, which were hosted at the Imagine School at Town Center the weeks of July 15 and July 29.
The Bulldogs Cheerleaders were there were hands-on demonstrations to teach their techniques and cheer skills and were role models by to the young cheerleaders at the camp. The FPC cheerleaders present were MacKenzie Gennera, Emma Lee, Destiny Ruiz, Marisa Gonzalez, Carolyn Steger, Alana Oshesky, Sierra Posella, Lexi Wright, Ava Russell, Tiffany Pane, Desiree Ruiz, Ti’Nari Cooks, Freda Floyd, Niya Preeper, Sydney Russell and Breanna Fleischer.
The 37th-annual Holiday Boat Parade in Palm Coast has set a date for Dec. 7. Under the leadership of the Palm Coast Yacht Club, the parade is expected to exceed its record last year of 47 brightly lit and decorated boats. The parade will be broadcasted live by KOOL 100.9 FM.
The event will begin at 6 p.m., departing from the Cimmaron Basin, south on the Intracoastal Waterway. Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland and Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly will serve as the grand marshals.
Registration is now open. Boat captains are urged to contact Parade Captain Robert Ulis at 283-5166 or [email protected]. Forms are also available at www.palmcoastyachtclub.com. Boats must be decorated and registered to participate. There are no entry fees. Membership in the Palm Coast Yacht Club is not required.
Rain date is set for Dec. 8. Official notice of any change to the parade status will be posted on the Palm Coast Yacht Club website by 4 p.m. on Dec. 7.
