Local dance group performs tribute to grieving families

The KEDA Angels, a teen dance group with the Kinetic Expressions Dance Academy, opened the Rock and Walk For Babies event, which is hosted by the TEARS Foundation to support families who have lost a child. The Angels performed  “Make You Feel My Love” by Adele, which was performed by Daytona resident and performer Michelle Marie.

Knights encourage children to enjoy the spirit of competition

Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council 8086 hosted its annual Founders Day celebration on Sept. 30. The fall picnic brought together more than 225 parishioners to enjoy home-cooked food and enjoy activities and sporting events. The church’s youth ministry provided a range of activities for children, including face painting, bean bag tosses and cart races. The soccer challenge and basketball free throw championship also encouraged more than 40 boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 14 to practice sportsmanship and engage in healthy competition.

American Legion Auxiliary supports local veterans, students

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 270 of Port Orange presented a check for $15,000 to sponsor a K-9s for Warriors Dog, which will be trained and paired with a local disabled veteran. The auxiliary also delivered school supplies to Port Orange Elementary School, which they intend to do again at the start of 2019.

Students at Atlantic and Spruce Creek high schools get recognition

On Sept. 11, Lodge Exalted Ruler Linda Lee and Lodge Scholarship Chairman Paul Leonard of the Port Orange Elks Lodge #2723 presented Student of the Month awards at Atlantic and Spruce Creek high schools.
