One Ormond Beach resident never thought he would continue to pursue his music career, but a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with The Voice changed all that.

Kaleb Scharmahorn, known by his artist name Kaleb Lee on the show, officially made it through the blind auditions of the Voice on Monday, Feb. 26. Scharmahorn, who is a former Salty Church worship leader, performed Kenny Chesney's "Never Wanted Nothing More" and had coaches Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton fighting to have him on his team. Scharmahorn said he went with his gut, and chose Shelton.

His journey on the show began when producers found a YouTube video of him singing and decided to reach out to him. Scharmahorn said he's a skeptical guy by nature, so it took him some time to come to grips with the opportunity and that it could work out in the end.

“Now that it’s happened, it’s been pretty exciting and so for me, I’m tuned in," Scharmahorn said. "I’m ready to see what will happen with this music thing and kind of re-engage with some of the stuff I put away for so long.”

His wife, Meagan Scharmahorn, had been urging him to audition for The Voice for years, but said that had the producers not approached him, he probably would have never auditioned. He had put his music on the backburner, choosing instead to focus on his family, to which she said she is extremely grateful. However, seeing him play music at home and sing to their three children, she said she always felt there was more to come for his music career.

“I think that makes it even more emotional that this was a dream of ours, and we had put it away, and now it’s like come back to life which is so, so exciting," Meagan Scharmahorn said.

The first time she saw him, he was playing music. She said that part of him has always been a part of their relationship. Their 10th wedding anniversary is coming this July.

She also said she wrote him a note during the audition process telling him that when you see somebody doing something they love, you get to fall in love with them all over again.

"So for him, stepping away from music, that was one thing I fell in love with him for, and then to see him doing it again, it’s like I get to fall in love with my husband all over again," Meagan Scharmahorn said. "It’s so, so neat.”

The support from the community has been overwhelming, Kaleb Scharmahorn said. Even though he's not originally from Ormond Beach, it is home to him and his family, who mean so much to him, he brought them onstage after his audition.

He said it was statement for the audience and coaches to know where his heart is.

“It was important for me to have the people I care most about up there with me," Kaleb Scharmahorn said. "I wanted them to know that.”
