Retired Pine Trails Elementary principal Susan Persis has announced her intent to run to represent Zone 3 in the Ormond Beach City Commission.

Persis, who currently serves on the city's quality of life board, said in a press release that she believes in ensuring that Ormond Beach's environment is protected and that one of her primary focuses will be to keep developmental standards high in the community. According to her statement, she plans to spend the next weeks meeting with city staff and its constituents. Retired Cobb Cole law partner Thomas Hart will serve as her campaign treasurer.

During her time as principal, she received the state's Innovative Principal of the Year award. Persis is also a Seabreeze High School graduate. She and her husband Carl Persis, who serves on the Volusia County School Board and is a former Ormond Beach City Commissioner and mayor, were recently honored as Humanitarians of the Year by the Florida Elks organization.
