'Kickball for a Cause' to raise funds for Volusia youth

Pop Up Park

When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Riverwalk Park

Cost: Free

Details: July is National Parks and Recreation Month, and the city is inviting residents to join the Port Orange Parks and Recreation and other city departments at the Pop Up Park event for an evening of sports, fun and community involvement. There will be free hot dogs, chips and drinks for the first 100 people. There will be guest appearances by the Port Orange Fire Department, Kona Ice and a mystery guest. Call 506-5851. 

Saturday, July 21

Port Orange Family YMCA Triathlon 

When: 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Where: Aunt Catfish's on the River

Cost: Starts at $62

Details: The YMCA Tri-Y Triathlon is open to athletes at various fitness levels, from beginners to experienced thriathletes. There will be a free full breakfast buffet provided by Aunt Catfish's on the River, and all participants will receive dry fit shirts and finisher medals. The course will begin with a 500-yard intracoastal swim, followed by a 12-mile bike ride down Atlantic Avenue and a 4-mile run over the Dunlawton Bridge and down Riverside Drive. Call 314-8583.

Kickball for a Cause Festival

When: 10 a.m.

Where: Coraci Fields

Cost: NA

Details: This event is for everyone to attend, and all proceeds fund youth in Volusia County who can't participate in athletic programs due to costs. There will be live music from the bands Brothers Within, Sweet Cambodia, Captain Colossal and FannyPack. Activities will include a cornhole tournament, top golf style competition and backyard games. Participants are encouraged to bring tents, chairs and games to tailgate in the outfield. Email [email protected]

Half Wall Adopt a Dog Challange

When: 2 p.m.

Where: Port Orange Half Wall

Cost: NA

Details: Individuals can have fun with friends and help rescue dogs with Sophie's Circle Pet Food Pantry and Dog Rescue at Half Wall Port Orange. Each month, Half Wall Port Orange will host an adoption event with the goal of one dog being adopted each month during 2018 with an end goal to find homes for 12 animals this year. Sophie's Circle is a registered non-profit 501c3 corporation that operates a pet food bank in Volusia County. KCFT fundraiser dinner

When: 5 p.m.

Where: Port Orange Fraternal Order of Eagles 

Cost: $10

Details: The Port Orange Auxiliary is extending a lending hand with a Kids Can Fish Too fundraiser dinner. The $10 dinner will include chicken, homemade mac and cheese and string bean salad as well as a cash bar and a cooler raffle. Call 756-3673.

Kids' Day at Total Vision of Port Orange

When: 9 a.m. to noon

Where: Total Vision Eye Health Associates Port Orange

Details: Total Vision Eye Health Associates will be hosting the three-hour annual Kids' Day Event for children to receive free vision screenings as well as have the chance to dress up as their favorite superhero. There will be a face painter and giveaways all morning. Call 767-4449.

DiscoverFest

When: 11 a.m.

Where: Kenneth W Parker Performing Arts Center 

Details: July is National Parks and Recreation Month, and to celebrate, the city of Port Orange is holding DiscoverFest at the Kenneth W. Parker Amphitheater in the City Center Complex. The event is a way to bring an end to the summer and embrace the start of a new school year with a fun new event that features a career scavenger hunt, educational presentations, giveaways, school supplies, music, food vendors and discovery.
