The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is warning people to not leave their cars unattended while they warm up their vehicles due to the unusually cold weather Flagler County residents are experiencing.
A resident of Sea Spiral Path, located in Palm Coast, told deputies he started his vehicle to get it warmed up, only to watch it be driven away moments later by an unidentified thief on the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 3, according to a news release by the Sheriff’s Office.
According to the release, deputies alerted surrounding counties and used Bluetooth technology to track the vehicle to Daytona Beach, where it was secured by the Daytona Beach Police Department.
The vehicle was unoccupied and the suspect has yet to be identified.
“Getting into a cold car is better than getting your car stolen,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in a release. “Dress appropriately for the weather and plan to stay in your vehicle until the windows are defrosted and it is safe to drive. Luckily this car was returned to the owner with little damage.”
