Advisory board drafts plan for CDBG fund distribution

The Neighborhood Improvement Advisory Board's plan will be reviewed at the City Commission meeting on May 15.

The Neighborhood Improvement Advisory Board will recommend that $54,000 of the city's Community Development Block Grant funding go toward the Ormond Beach Housing Authority to help the organization perform improvements in their facilities, including roof repairs.

The city is estimating it will receive $141,136 of CDBG funding for 2018-2019. The annual CDBG is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development federal entitlement program that helps entitled cities and counties to provide decent housing, a suitable living environment and expansions of economic opportunities for low to moderate income populations. The Neighborhood Improvement Advisory Board met on Wednesday, April 11, to finalize its list of recommendations.

Aside from the funding for the Ormond Beach Housing Authority, the board will also recommend that $2,056 be distributed to the Great Kids Learning Center as part of the grant's public service funding.

The remaining balance of $85,080 of the estimated grant funding will be used for capital improvements in the city. The board will recommend the city use those funds for landscape upgrades at Ames Park, Cassen Park and Baileys Riverbridge Gardens.

After it is vetted by Volusia County's Community Assistance Division, the plan will be presented for approval at the City Commission meeting on May 15.
