Ormond Beach's Riviera Country Club will be the featured course in the Florida Historic Golf Trail Course for April, as announced by Secretary of State Ken Detzner on Friday, April 6.

The Florida Historic Golf Trail is a collection of more than 50 historic public golf courses throughout in Florida that are still open for games. According to a press release by the Florida Department of State, the Riviera Country Club was first built as part of a 1920s development named "Rio Vista on the Halifax." By 1927, the development included a hotel, 38 houses and more than 15 miles of paved road, which all stopped with the onset of the Great Depression.

The Meyers family bought the golf course in 1953 and now includes an 18-hole, par-71 golf course featuring three sets of tees playing from 5,100 to 6,200 yards. It welcomes worldwide golfers who enjoy a relaxed atmosphere where no tee times are required. It's also home to The Riviera Open, which started in 1960 and is the longest-running mini-tour event in the country.
