Police investigating animal cruelty case

A dog and a cat were reported dead.

The Port Orange Police Department is actively investigating an animal cruelty case.

On Friday, Sept. 22, Port Orange Animal Control officers were dispatched to the Ashton Point Apartments in Port Orange where a resident told officers their family dog had died under suspicious circumstances.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, a Port Orange Animal Control officer was again dispatched to the Ashton Point Apartments in reference to a dead cat located in a cluster of bushes. No visible trauma was observed on the cat and the circumstances are also considered suspicious in nature. 

As this an open investigation, no further information is being released at this time. Updated information will be provided as soon as it is available.
