A vehicle caught fire on Friday, Oct 27, when the motorist was driving southbound on Williamson Boulevard near Town West Boulevard, according to authorities.

According to Port Orange Fire Chief Ken Fustin, the alarm went off at 5:41 p.m. and units cleared the scene at 5:59 p.m. Engine 75 responded from Station 75 and, upon arrival, found a 2000 Mercury Sable with the engine compartment fully engulfed in flames, Fustin noted.

"Investigation found that the driver was driving southbound when other vehicles started honking and alerting him that a fire was coming from the engine compartment," Fustin wrote in an email. "He stopped the car to check and indeed it was on fire."

According to Fustin, the driver stated he had mechanic work done on the vehicle days before.

The scene was left with the Port Orange Police Department waiting for a tow truck.
