There were zombies, some dancing, some chatting with friends and a few posing for pictures.

This was all part of the Port Orange Regional Library's Zombie Prom for local teens on Friday, Oct. 27.

The middle school and high school students had come dressed in costumes and library staff, some also dressed as zombies, had been on hand to help with their undead makeup and hand out corsages.

"We've been hoping to do something like this for awhile," Kasey Thomas, teen library associate, said. "We thought we'd just try it out this year and see how it goes."

The event took place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. during the usual after-school program, but had been opened up to all the teens in the area. Cody Kleinschmidt and Madison Klamp were named Zombie Prom king and queen, complete with creepy crowns made by Thomas.

For Thomas, the event was a way to provide a fun outlet for local youth and get them more involved with the library.

"It's not just the same old sit and read books kind of deal but it's a fun way to bring the public in and show them we're about having fun," Thomas said. "This is just a fun way to let them express who they are and let loose a bit."
